Brief Introduction to Dajin Lake
Dajin Lake in Taining, Sanming City, Fujian Province, is located in Taining County in the northwest of Fujian Province. Dominated by Danxia landform landscapes, Dajin Lake Geopark is also dotted with granite landforms and cultural sites.
Spatial Distribution of Danxia Landforms
Stretching from Tiancheng Rock in Longhu Town in the north, the Danxia belt runs southwest through Shangqing Stream and downtown Taining to Dushu Mountain and Jizi Summit, then turns south to Mao'er Mountain, Dragon King Rock, Eight Immortals Cliff (Dayading Summit) and finally Long'an Township. Four red basins are distributed along this route: Shangqing Stream, Jinhu Lake, Dragon King Rock and Eight Immortals Rock.
From an aerial view, the landforms form a pattern resembling the Chinese character for "person". The zone extends 34 kilometers from northeast to southwest and 29 kilometers from north to south, covering a total area of 215.2 square kilometers. The terrain generally rises gradually from the northeast toward the southwest. The ridge linking Jizi Summit, Dragon King Rock and Dayading Summit forms the highest zone of Dajin Lake’s Danxia landforms. Eight Immortals Cliff (Dayading Summit) is the peak of this zone with an altitude of 907.6 meters. This area features the best-developed and most typical peak and pillar landforms, as well as the densest concentration of scenic spots.
Granite landform landscapes lie on the southwest side of the Danxia zone, while cultural relics are concentrated in the central area. The geopark is divided into 5 major scenic areas (Shangqing Stream Scenic Area, Taining Ancient Town Tourist Zone, Jinhu Lake Scenic Area, Dragon King Rock – Eight Immortals Cliff Scenic Area and Jinnao Mountain Scenic Area), 11 sub-scenic zones, 13 landscape clusters and 160 individual scenic spots in total.
