Peking Opera arose in the late 18th century and was fully developed and recognized by the mid-19th century. It has come to be regarded as one of the cultural treasures of China and has spread to other countries such as the United States and Japan. Tianjin is home to China's key Peking Opera troupes including the Tianjin Youth Peking Opera Troupe and the Tianjin Peking Opera Troupe. They have top-class performers and many fans, making Peking Opera one of the most popular performing groups in the Tianjin market.
