The Beijing Bell and Drum Towers were built in the 9th year of the Zhiyuan period of the Yuan Dynasty (1272 AD) and were later destroyed in a fire. In the 18th year of the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty (1420 AD), the buildings were rebuilt and located at the north end of the north-south axis of the capital. The Bell and Drum Towers, which are the same age as the Forbidden City, have a history of more than 600 years. As one of the landmarks of the ancient capital Beijing, they have witnessed the magnificent changes of the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties.
