Nanhai Guild Hall was built in 1824, it was originally the house of Dong Wenke(Dong Bangda). It was bought by the Beijing Hainan-native officials. Late, an adjacent courtyard was bought to become a part of the Guild Hall. In 1880, as the Hainan natives coming to Beijing to take the exam were more and more, the house on the south was bought again to form a big courtyard by 13 small courtyards.
The hall has a very tranquil environment. In the nineties of 19th, the hall became a meeting place for all patriots. Kang Youwei created “Wanguo Communique”(later renamed the ‘Worldwide Records’) and personally wrote articles to propaganda reformation.
