On May 4th Street in Beijing, there is an old-fashioned red-bricked and red-tiled building called "Peking University Red House", which is now the Beijing New Cultural Movement Memorial. The former site of the early Beijing revolutionary activities of the Chinese Communist Party represented by this building has witnessed the glorious history and immortal achievements of the early Chinese Communists.
As the birthplace of the May 4th Movement, the Red House of Peking University used to be the main front for the spread of Marxism in early China and the birthplace of the first party organization of the Chinese Communist Party in Beijing. Mr. Li Dazhao used to be the curator of Peking University Library, Mr. Chen Duxiu edited "New Youth" here, and Mr. Lu Xun taught here...
The New Culture Movement was an "anti-tradition, anti-Confucianism, and anti-classical" ideological and cultural innovation and literary revolution that broke out in 1919. The movement promoted the development of modern science in China and laid the ideological foundation for the spread of Marxism in China and the outbreak of the May Fourth Patriotic Movement. In 1961, it was announced as the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units, and it is also a municipal patriotism education base in Beijing.
