Must-see Attractions on Mount Tai

Dai Temple

It is the largest and best-preserved ancient architectural complex on Mount Tai. Serving as a Taoist sacred mansion, it was the venue where emperors of successive dynasties held grand mountain-crowning ceremonies and offered sacrifices to the God of Mount Tai. Its history dates back to remote antiquity. Historical records note that "altars were built as early as the Qin Dynasty, and palaces were erected in the Han Dynasty".

Eighteen Turns and South Heavenly Gate

The Eighteen Turns form the most precipitous section of the mountain trail, with more than 1,600 stone steps. It is one of the major symbols of Mount Tai.
Sheer cliffs rise on both sides, with the steep winding path wedged between them. Seen from afar, it looks exactly like a ladder leading up to the heavenly gate. The South Heavenly Gate stands at the top of the Eighteen Turns.

Watching the Sunrise at Sea-Probing Stone (Northward Arching Stone)

Also known as Northward Arching Stone, this jagged rock juts out abruptly on the summit. It stretches 6.5 metres long. It is another landmark of Mount Tai and an ideal spot to watch the sunrise. Visitors can also admire the amazing sea of clouds here.

Jade Emperor Peak

Lying north of Bixia Temple, it gets its name from the Jade Emperor Temple atop the peak. It is the highest point of Mount Tai, formerly called Peace Peak or Heavenly Candle Peak. Standing at an altitude of 1,545 metres, it rises towering into the sky and enjoys the reputation of "the foremost mountain under heaven".
