Introduction to Beachcombing in Rizhao

Soft and smooth beach, golden yellow sand;
Little girls go beachcombing with bare tiny feet.
She picks up a conch on the coral reef,
Catches a prawn in a tide pool.
Searching, searching nonstop…
Digging, digging nonstop…
Local coastal residents follow the rhythm of tides. They head to mudflats and rocky shores at low tide to catch and collect seafood, an activity known as beachcombing.

Activity Arrangements

  1. Beachcombing at Low Tide
    During spring low tides, the park features flat, fine-sand shores teeming with marine life. Visitors can fish for razor clams, pick conchs and catch crabs.
    Eight fish-patting and crab-catching pools are built outside the Sea Gate for tourists to have fun catching fish and crabs.
  2. Coastal Activities at High Tide
    When the tide rises, the shallow flat waters offer traditional sea activities: netting tiny shrimp, catching jellyfish, angling for shrimp, crabs and fish, and hauling fishing nets.
  3. Extra Marine Experiences
    Visitors can sail out to sea to admire coastal scenery, watch fishermen fishing, view the trap nets set by locals, and share the joy of harvesting seafood from the nets.
  4. Watch the Ebb and Flow of Tides
    The exceptionally flat beach presents a spectacular tidal scene twice every day.
    At low tide, seawater recedes rapidly, exposing thousands of mu of mudflats dotted with fish, shrimp, crabs and shellfish left behind.
    At high tide, seawater surges in from all directions and submerges the mudflats in an instant, creating a magnificent view.
