What are the top highlights of Dayu Mountain Island?
Dayu Mountain Island boasts an extensive coastline with prominent marine erosion landforms around the island. The rocky reefs feature high aesthetic value.
Take a boat to circle the island. Along the 30.7-kilometer coastline, jagged reefs stretch intermittently up and down, forming a magnificent "chain of rocky treasures". After long-term erosion by wind and waves, the rocks have formed countless vivid shapes that never fail to impress visitors.
Famous rock formations include Golden Monkey Watching the Sunrise, Thousand-Leaf Rock, Turtle Reef and Stacked Stone Reef.
You can also visit Bird Island, covering merely 0.5 square kilometers with an elevation of less than 100 meters. Dense vegetation provides shelter for thousands of seagulls and migratory birds. The spectacular sight of flocks taking off and landing continuously is breathtaking.
When you set foot on the main island, you will find vast golden sandy beaches at Dashidai. The flat shore is fed by fresh water from the White Lotus Waterfall, making it an ideal natural bathing beach and a perfect holiday resort. Tourists can enjoy beach volleyball and other seaside activities here.
The Heavenly Lakes refer to two alpine lakes perched on the summit of Tianhu Mountain, more than 20 kilometers away from Mazu Village on Dayu Mountain Island. One lake is large and the other small, known respectively as the Greater Heavenly Lake and the Lesser Heavenly Lake.
The mountain rises about 500 meters above sea level. The Greater Heavenly Lake spans over 1,000 mu while the Lesser Heavenly Lake covers more than 200 mu. The two lakes are over 1,000 meters apart.
Springs gush up from the lake bed all year round, keeping the water clear, sweet and fresh like premium natural mineral water with health benefits.
Gentle slopes surround the lakes, covered with ten thousand mu of grassland — an excellent natural pasture hailed as the "Tianshan Mountains of Southern China". Wild turtles often wander along the lakeshore.
Blue sky, white clouds, the blazing sun, bright moon and green surrounding mountains reflect perfectly on the water, creating the stunning scenery called "Shimmering Reflections on Heavenly Lakes".
In addition, the island has many other scenic spots including Hongji Cave, Ancient Stockade Rock and Tianhu Temple.
Tiaoshuizhang Creek stands out with unique charm. It is the largest stream on the island. Massive boulders litter the riverbed, making the rushing water leap forward nonstop, hence the name.
Originating from Tianhu Mountain, the creek runs past a dense cluster of attractions: Mysterious Sand Patterns, White Lotus Waterfall, Bright Moon Pool, White Lotus Temple, Ambassador Palace, Butterfly Rock and Eight-Tone Spring.
Wind carves countless exquisite patterns on the sandbar formed by the creek. These patterns keep changing with shifting wind and water currents day by day, forming the fantastic wonder known as "Exquisite Sand Patterns"
