Recommended Four-Day Tour Itinerary for Xi’an and Yan’an
Xi’an boasts convenient transportation, so we arrange it as the starting point. You may adjust the visiting order of the two cities according to your schedule.
Day 1: Terracotta Army Museum → Underground Palace of the Qin Mausoleum → Huaqing Palace → Imperial Hot Spring Ruins Museum (Overnight in Xi’an)
- Terracotta Army Museum (2 hours): Visit Pit 1, Pit 2, Pit 3 and the Bronze Chariot Exhibition Hall to admire the magnificent underground army of Emperor Qin Shi Huang.
- Underground Palace of the Qin Mausoleum (about 40 minutes): Explore a miniature replica of the inner structure of Qin Shi Huang’s Mausoleum and uncover the age-old mysteries surrounding the imperial tomb.
- Huaqing Palace (1 hour): Tour this imperial royal garden and summer resort reputed as "the No.1 Hot Spring Under Heaven". Drop by the Imperial Hot Spring Ruins Museum to learn about the romantic love story between Emperor Li Longji and Yang Yuhuan.
Day 2: Giant Wild Goose Pagoda → Bell and Drum Tower Square → Muslim Quarter → Dream Back to the Tang Dynasty: Dance of Cloud Robes and Feather Garments (Overnight in Xi’an)
Spend half an hour at the North Square of Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, home to Asia’s largest musical fountain, and enjoy the ancient city’s charm along the drive (1 hour). Visit Xi’an’s landmark Bell and Drum Tower Square and the Muslim Quarter (1 hour). In the evening, watch the grand performance Dream Back to the Tang Dynasty: Dance of Cloud Robes and Feather Garments.
Day 3: Yellow Emperor’s Mausoleum → Luochuan Loess National Geopark → Hukou Waterfall → Nanniwan (Overnight in Yan’an)
This route travels from Xi’an to a series of scenic spots en route to Yan’an. The schedule will be quite tight without a private car or tour bus.
Day 4: Yan’an University + Yangjialing Revolutionary Site + Yan’an Revolutionary Memorial Hall + Baota Mountain + Xintianyou Folk Ballad Show
