Travel Guide: Rapeseed Flower Sightseeing in Hanzhong
The municipal government of Hanzhong has rolled out a number of flower-viewing routes for tourists to choose from.
A. Self-driving Tours to the Rapeseed Flower Sea
Route 1
Xie Shui Town (Zhangping Village) → Tuandui Village → Guihua Village → Hongsi Lake → South Lake → Liping
Comment: This is a newly opened self-driving flower route passing through Zhangping Village. Scattered rapeseed flowers line the road with charming scenery. However, Zhangping Village lies on flat open land, which is great for gatherings yet mediocre for photography. Photographers should avoid this detour to save precious time.
Route 2
West China Expressway → Cai Lun’s Tomb in Yang County → Crested Ibis Pear Garden on the outskirts (enjoy tens of thousands of mu of pear blossoms) → Citrus Orchard in Chenggu (orange blossoms) → Ten-thousand-mu Flower Base in Hantai → Marquis Wu’s Tomb in Mian County → Marquis Wu Temple → Nanzheng → Shimen → Zibai Mountain
Comment: Travellers can fully appreciate the flower sea across the Hanzhong Plain, visit classic scenic spots, and taste authentic local snacks of Hanzhong.
B. Photography Routes for Rapeseed Flower Seas
Route Map for Nanzheng County
Route 1
Nanzheng → Yangchun Bridge → Liuyuan Village → Fenghuang Village → Nongfeng Village → Lifeng Village → Danjiagou Village → Hetongyan Village → Gaotai Town → Hanzhong
Comment: This route runs through foothills and hilly areas with vast rapeseed fields and layered flower landscapes, ideal for sightseeing and photography. Note that the section from Nongfeng Village via Lifeng Village to Danjiagou Village is an unsurfaced dirt road.
Backpackers highly recommend two breathtaking spots:
- Overlooking the landscape from the hillside forest in Hetong Township;
- The vast expanse of rapeseed blooms around Chenjia Village Reservoir, especially the endless flower sea past the village.
Both sites offer high ground for panoramic views.
Route 2
South Lake of Nanzheng → Qingshu Town → Summit of Dahan Mountain → Xiema Township → Dahekan
Comment: Centred around Dahan Mountain, this route overlooks rapeseed blossoms stretching nearly one hundred kilometres. The mountain also boasts distinctive farmstay inns.
C. Rural Flower-viewing Routes in Hanzhong
Route 1
West China Expressway → Crested Ibis Pear Garden (tens of thousands of mu of pear blossoms and rapeseed flowers) → Crested Ibis Ecological Park → Cai Lun’s Tomb
Comment: You can watch wild crested ibises and taste local farm feasts and jujube steamed buns unique to Yang County.
Route 2
West China Expressway → Zhang Qian’s Tomb → Citrus Orchard (one hundred thousand mu of orange blossoms) → Dongjiaying Rapeseed Flower Sea → Nansha Lake
Comment: Visitors can try rock climbing, climb Shengxian Platform, and savour authentic Chenggu rice noodles.
Route 3
West China Expressway → Cornus officinalis Flower Sea on the outskirts of Foping County → Giant Panda Park → Dapingyu Valley
Comment: Besides enjoying cornel blossoms, you can see giant pandas and taste wild mountain delicacies from local farms.
Important reminder: The giant panda reserve is only open from June 1 to October 31 every year.
Route 4
Exit at Chenggu on West China Expressway → Xixiang Cherry Valley (cherry blossoms across tens of thousands of mu) → Zaoyuan Lake Tea Garden → Hilly rapeseed flower fields
Comment: Tourists can admire cherry blossoms and taste Xixiang beef jerky, preserved eggs and farmhouse dishes.

Route 1: From Xi’an
Xi’an → West China Expressway → Cai Lun’s Tomb → Main Venue of the Rapeseed Flower Festival → Citrus Orchard → Nansha Lake → Peony Garden → Shimen → Marquis Wu Temple → Marquis Wu’s Tomb → South Lake → Hongsi Lake → Cherry Valley → Wuzi Mountain → Shitian Expressway → Xi’an
Route 2: From Lanzhou
Lanzhou → Baoji → Liuba → Zibai Mountain → Zhang Liang Temple → Shimen → Marquis Wu’s Tomb → Marquis Wu Temple → South Lake → Main Venue in Yang County → Cai Lun’s Tomb → Zhang Qian’s Tomb → Downtown Hanzhong → Peony Garden → Return to Lanzhou
Route 3: From Chengdu
Chengdu → Qingmuchuan → Marquis Wu’s Tomb → Marquis Wu Temple → South Lake → Main Venue → Cai Lun’s Tomb → Zhang Qian’s Tomb → Downtown Hanzhong → Shimen → Peony Garden → Return to Chengdu
