Nagqu is a major city in Xizang, featuring a good selection of star-rated hotels. Their facilities and services can satisfy most travelers, though the rates are relatively high. Besides these hotels, distinctive small inns are also popular among tourists and are the top choice for backpackers.

When staying in Nagqu, you have two main options: traditional Tibetan yurts or regular hotels. Simple yet affordable, Tibetan yurts let you experience the warmth and forthright character of herdsmen in northern Xizang. There are also county-level guest houses, such as Nagqu County Guest House and Damxung County Guest House, where a single bed costs 15 to 30 yuan per night.

Yurts are built with locally sourced materials. People first set up a circular frame and roof with tamarisk branches. The frame is enclosed with fences woven from stipa grass, and then covered with felt. An opening on the top, covered with movable felt panels, serves as a vent. Some roof felts are decorated with red or other colorful patterns. Yurts usually face east and are easy to disassemble and transport.
