Best Time to Visit Nagqu
The period from May to September each year is the ideal travel season for Nagqu.
Nagqu features a subarctic climate characterized by severe cold, oxygen deficiency, dry air and frequent strong winds. Its annual average temperature ranges from -3.3℃ to -0.9℃. From November to March of the following year, the region enters a long dry and windy season, with frigid temperatures, sparse oxygen and prevalent sandstorms.
By contrast, May to September brings relatively mild weather. It is the golden season for the grasslands, with gentle winds and bright sunshine. The vast grasslands turn lush green, all living things thrive, and both local people and livestock are in great vitality.
In-season Highlights: Dolma Canyon, Qiangtang Grassland and Siling Tso
Dolma Canyon presents breathtaking magnificent scenery at this time. The wide grassland stretching before the canyon resembles a huge green carpet. Driving along the road feels like stepping into a secluded paradise. The pure and fresh air instantly refreshes your mind and lifts your spirits.
Siling Tso boasts distinctive scenery in summer, with various migratory birds inhabiting the islets on the lake. Qiangtang Grassland is dreamlike and colorful. Here you can find ancient rock paintings, ruins of the ancient Zhangzhung Kingdom and traces of the legendary King Gesar.
