Liaoyuan boasts a long history of artificial sika deer breeding. Dongfeng County is China’s Hometown of Sika Deer, as every part of the sika deer is valuable. More than a dozen types of deer products are produced here, among which Ma’s Pilose Antler enjoys a high reputation at home and abroad. For decades, these products have earned outstanding credibility in international markets, especially across Southeast Asia, with demand consistently outstripping supply.
Local Specialties of Liaoyuan
Longquanchun Liquor
Longquanchun Liquor is produced within the administrative jurisdiction of Liaoyuan City, Jilin Province. Made from high-quality sorghum and wheat, it uses medium-high temperature Daqu starter for saccharification and fermentation. The raw materials undergo aerobic stacking for microbial cultivation, pit fermentation, distillation after fermentation, followed by natural aging and long-term storage of raw liquor in containers to enrich its aroma.
Dongfeng Sika Deer
Dongfeng-bred sika deer have maintained a stellar reputation both domestically and internationally for over a century. They are mainly native to Dongfeng County, Jilin Province. Over 10,000 Dongfeng sika deer have been introduced to other regions of Jilin as well as more than a dozen provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities including Beijing, Inner Mongolia and Qinghai.
Liaoyuan Wild Mushrooms
Liaoyuan is rich in a wide variety of wild mushrooms, including hazel mushrooms, pine boletes, slippery jacks, willow mushrooms, poplar mushrooms, field mushrooms, white mushrooms, grey puffballs, osmund fern shoots and lichen. The mushrooms thrive in late spring, early summer and after autumn rains. Local residents pick them in farmlands and mountains. Fresh and dried mushrooms are consumed by families, with surpluses sold on the market.
