What Scenic Spots Are There in Liaoyuan, Jilin Province?

Prosperous and picturesque Liaoyuan lies in the southeast of Jilin Province, at the transitional zone between the branch ranges of the Changbai Mountains and the Songnen Plain, and is hailed as a bright pearl along the East Liao River.

Scenic Spots & Places of Interest

Although Liaoyuan was developed relatively late, it boasts abundant natural landscapes and modern historical relics, with rich tourism resources waiting to be further explored and utilized. Among them, there are 2 key cultural relic protection sites at the national and provincial levels, plus 20 at the municipal level.
Natural and cultural attractions include the Stele Pavilion at the Source of the East Liao River, Shoushan Mountain, Guishan Mountain, Longshou Mountain Park, Nanzhaoshan Mountain Park, Yangmu Lake Resort, Bayi Lake Tourist Zone, the Ancient Stone Courier Path, the Royal Deer Garden in Dongfeng, and Dongfeng Guidao Tourist Resort, among others.
Since the reform and opening-up drive, this beautiful city of Liaoyuan has thrived with vibrant vitality. It maintains robust economic growth, greatly strengthened comprehensive strength and an upgraded urban image, gradually evolving into a regional central city in south-central Jilin and a vital industrial base of the province.
Endowed with abundant natural resources and outstanding people, Liaoyuan holds numerous well-deserved titles: the Hometown of Chinese Sika Deer, the Hometown of Chinese Pipa, the Hometown of Chinese Peasant Paintings, and the Hometown of Chinese Errenzhuan Opera Art.
Liaoyuan has a long-standing history of deer breeding. In the Qing Dynasty, the region was designated the imperial Shengjing Imperial Hunting Ground, and Emperor Kangxi personally decreed it the Royal Deer Garden.
Dongfeng County, under the administration of Liaoyuan, features stunning natural scenery encircled by rolling mountains, crisscrossing mountain streams and four distinct pleasant seasons. Its marvelous natural vistas have made it Asia’s largest base for artificially farmed sika deer.
Rich in natural resources, Dongfeng was designated a restricted imperial hunting ground as early as the early Qing Dynasty, where wild sika deer multiplied and lived in peace. In the early years of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty, it was designated an official mountain for deer raising, marking the start of captive sika deer breeding — a tradition stretching back more than 200 years to this day.
With profound cultural heritage and a uniquely captivating history of deer farming, Dongfeng of Liaoyuan has drawn growing attention from visitors across the globe.
