Must-Visit Attractions in Yichun

Located 8 kilometers from the seat of Tangwanghe District, Tangwanghe Forest Stone National Forest Park is a new ecological tourist zone and national geological relic park integrating cultural and natural landscapes. The scenic area is divided into eight major zones: natural pasture, snow pine forest, stream wetland, ethnic customs, mountain and river sightseeing, Lesser Khingan Stone Forest, autumn pine forest and flower viewing zone.

Within the park, towering fantastic jagged rock formations rise from the ground, while ancient towering pine trees stand skyward. The oddly shaped trees and stones feature vivid lifelike appearances with profound implied meanings.

In the southern zone, the landmark stone inscribed with "Lesser Khingan Stone Forest" was written by Comrade Chen Lei, former Governor of Heilongjiang Province and Honorary Chairman of Heilongjiang Calligraphers Association, during his inspection tour in 1993. Famous scenic spots here include the Narrow Sky, Arhat Turtle, Majestic Peak and Mountain Guardian General.

The western zone boasts myth-themed unique landscapes such as Sword-Cleft Mountain, Heavenly Hound Rock, Cloud Boot Summit and Drunken Ao Turtle Stone steeped in traditional legends.

The northern zone features folk legend landscapes dominated by Zhong Kui Cliff — where Zhong Kui holds a demon-subduing staff and a ghost-driving whip — alongside the deep and secluded Secluded Valley and Peach Immortal Ridge.

The central zone is home to pictographic fantastic stones, including Dragon Head Rock, Dragon and Phoenix Bringing Prosperity, Forest Goddess of Mercy, Lying Heavenly Ox, Xing’an Ganoderma, Sky Mending Stone and Longevity Turtle.

Wuying preserves the best intact virgin Korean pine forest among all forest zones in Yichun, housing both Wuying National Forest Park and Fenglin National Korean Pine Nature Reserve. It hosts Asia’s largest, most complete and most representative virgin Korean pine forest aggregation.

Jiayin Dinosaur National Geopark gets its name from dinosaurs, as the site where China’s first dinosaur fossil was unearthed. Fossils excavated here have been assembled into ten complete dinosaur skeletons. Two years ago, paleontologists and geologists from multiple countries conducted field surveys in Jiayin and discovered a large new group of dinosaur fossils. Besides hadrosaurs and coelurosaurs, ankylosaur fossils, dinosaur skin impressions and dinosaur footprints were unearthed, further cementing its reputation as the Hometown of Dinosaurs.

As an ancient poem goes: "A mountain gains renown not for its height, but for immortals dwelling within; a stream gains magic not for its depth, but for dragons lurking below." On the far Sino-Russian border along the Heilongjiang River stands such a mountain famed for dinosaurs — Dragon Bone Hill. Though the hill is small and plain-looking, it is the first site in China to yield dinosaur fossils, hailed as the Hometown of Dinosaurs. It once produced China’s first assembled dinosaur fossil skeleton, the "First Dinosaur of China". Today, this once desolate land has become a popular tourist destination: Heilongjiang Jiayin Dinosaur National Geopark.

Also known as Hongxing Volcanic Rock Geopark or simply Hongxing Geopark, it sits within the Dapingtai Forestry Zone of Hongxing Forestry Bureau, Yichun City, Heilongjiang Province, 160 kilometers from downtown Yichun, covering an area of 20,188 hectares. It is another spectacular volcanic geological wonder discovered after Wudalianchi.

Extensive volcanic lava and stone seas, paired with diverse surrounding ecosystems, create ideal living habitats for flora and fauna here. There are 47 national Class I and Class II protected wild animals such as red-crowned cranes and moose, plus 511 plant species, earning it the reputation of Heilongjiang’s Wildlife and Plant Resource Reserve. The park features three marvelous wonders: volcanic landforms, seas of azalea blossoms and Kurbin rime.

The geological landscape was formed by repeated volcanic eruptions and basalt lava flows from the Late Carboniferous, Early Permian and Late Permian periods. The volcanic rocks date back to ancient geological eras, covered in thick moss and lush paleophytes. Stones stand amid forests, forests grow atop stones, flowers bloom among rocks and rocks nestle within blossoms. The magnificent and pleasant scenery constitutes a rare geological marvel in China.
