The temperature varies drastically within a single day in Yan’an, so prepare enough layers of clothing. If you visit in summer, bring sunscreen, lip balm and moisturizing skincare products, and remember to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
2. Photography
Northern Shaanxi may not have an abundance of famous historical relics, yet its distinctive folk customs and local architecture offer far more shooting subjects than most people expect. Do not forget to bring your camera. For enthusiasts of humanistic photography, a standard lens for DSLR cameras is a must-have.
3. Protective Gear
The Loess Plateau of northern Shaanxi suffers frequent wind and sand with intense ultraviolet radiation. Take full sun protection measures and carry sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat for emergencies. Also, take good care of your camera to avoid scratches caused by blowing sand.
