Binzhou City Profile

Binzhou lies on the North Shandong Plain in the lower reaches of the Yellow River, at the heart of the Yellow River Delta. It borders Dongying City to the east, Zibo City to the south, Dezhou and Jinan cities to the west, and faces Hebei Province across the Zhangwei New River to the northwest.

It currently administers one district, six counties and an Economic Development Zone: Bincheng District, Huimin County, Yangxin County, Wudi County, Zhanhua District, Boxing County and Zouping City.

Boasting convenient transportation, Binzhou is traversed by Jiqing Expressway, Binbo Expressway, Jingbin Expressway, as well as National Highways 205 and 220, serving as a vital transportation hub linking Jiangsu, Shandong, Beijing and Tianjin.

Binzhou boasts a long-standing history and profound cultural heritage. Human settlements and reproduction date back to the Neolithic Age, making it one of the birthplaces of Yellow River Culture and Qi Culture. The ancient Pugu State was established here during the Shang Dynasty. County-level administrative divisions were first set up in the Qin Dynasty. From the Western Han Dynasty to the Republic of China, successive local administrative bodies including commanderies, kingdoms, prefectures, subprefectures and circuits were founded. Binzhou Prefecture was formally established in the Five Dynasties Period, deriving its name from its adjacency to the Bohai Sea.

Binzhou features a rich and diverse array of traditional folk arts. Lü Opera originating in Boxing, the Huji Storytelling Fair in Huimin, clay sculptures, woodblock prints and Binzhou paper-cutting are steeped in rustic charm and boast distinctive artistic styles.

Representative tourist attractions of Binzhou include the Sun Tzu Art of War City and Wei Manor in Huimin County, Zhanhua Winter Jujube Ecological Tourism Zone, Jieshi Mountain Scenic Area in Wudi, and Heban Mountain National Forest Park in Zouping.

In addition, Binzhou hosts annual grand cultural events such as the Sun Tzu Culture Tourism Festival, China Zhanhua Winter Jujube Festival, and Boxing International Folk Opera & Dong Yong Culture Tourism Festival, drawing large numbers of tourists from home and abroad every year.
