Chaohu City takes its name from Chaohu Lake. As one of China’s five largest freshwater lakes, it stretches 800 li in circumference. Churning waves roll up snow-white spray amid boundless misty waters, making it a renowned tourist resort in central Anhui. It is also hailed as the "Capital of Hot Springs".
Two islands stand out like twin pearls: Mushan Island in the lake and Xiliang Mountain Island on the Yangtze River. Three major hot springs encircle the lake — Bantang, Xiangquan and Tangchi — splashing crystal-clear water like three strings of pearls. Four National Forest Parks, namely Taihu Mountain, Jilong Mountain, Yefu Mountain and Tianjing Mountain, are blanketed in lush verdant woods resembling four pieces of jadeite. Five karst caves each boast unique charms, just like five underwater dragon palaces: Immortal Cave, Crape Myrtle Cave, Wangqiao Cave, Huayang Cave and Boshan Cave. Besides these natural wonders, a thousand-year-old wild white peony blooms gracefully on Yinping Mountain, a rare floral treasure
