In the early Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty, a father-and-son pair named Pan Xiaowu from Nanjing opened a sauce shop called Yuanchangzhai in Linhuan Town and created this pickled vegetable. It is famous for its unique flavors: aromatic, crisp, tender and rich in soy sauce sauce aroma. A poet in the late Qing Dynasty wrote a poem in praise of it:
