Recommended Itineraries
Ascending the Mountain
After entering the gate, visitors have three main options to head uphill:
A. Hike the whole way
Not recommended. The hike takes around 3 to 4 hours, and the first half runs parallel to the road with few attractive sights. If you have ample time and stamina, you may try it for a full backpacker-style experience.
B. Take the sightseeing shuttle bus to Nine-Dragon Bridge (10 RMB), then hike uphill
Recommended. Most core scenic spots lie above Nine-Dragon Bridge. This option suits visitors with decent physical strength who enjoy mountain climbing.
C. Take the sightseeing shuttle bus directly to the mountain summit (20 RMB)
Recommended. It is effortless and time-saving. Avoid taking buses or cable cars on the way down, otherwise your trip will turn into a superficial tour arranged by travel agencies.
Descending the Mountain
If you ascend via Option A or B, you may take the shuttle bus or cable car downhill after sightseeing at the summit.
- For those who pick Option B and wish to see all attractions: walk down from Nine-Dragon Bridge onwards.
- For those who pick Option C: walk downhill to avoid missing wonderful views such as cute wild macaques. Once you reach Nine-Dragon Bridge, you can take the shuttle bus (10 RMB) down the mountain if you are short on time or exhausted.
