What are the local specialties of Laibin?
Agricultural and sideline products such as rice, sugarcane, peanuts, tea, fruits and star anise enjoy a long-standing reputation across the country. Local specialties include honeysuckle, longhairy antenoron herb, wild vanilla and kumquat.
A host of renowned local products are widely famous: wild vanilla and gynostemma pentaphyllum from Jinxiu Yao Autonomous County, sanhua plums and longan from Wuxuan County, honeysuckle and squabs from Xincheng County, as well as pueraria root from Xiangzhou County. Currently, the city's forest coverage rate reaches 43.4%. Jinxiu is known as the Hometown of Star Anise in China and also home to Guangxi's largest water conservation forest reserve.
Jinxiu Yao Autonomous County is a national demonstration county for pollution-free agriculture. Tea industry stands as one of its pillar industries. The county seat sits over 1,000 meters above sea level. Dominated by lofty mountains, the region features lush forests, fertile soil rich in organic matter, a large diurnal temperature difference and abundant rainfall. Tea plantations are nestled in dense woods shrouded in mist all year round, boasting unique natural advantages for producing premium tea.
The major tea varieties produced here are White Ox Tea, Silver Tip Tea and Yaoshan Mellow Leaf Tea.
White Ox Tea
It originates in the primeval forests of the Dayao Mountains near Bainiu Village, Luoxiang Township, with a cultivation history of more than 100 years. The tea leaves are emerald green in appearance. The tea bushes grow upright, delivering a delicate and pure aroma and a sweet, mellow taste.
Silver Tip Tea
Appraised by the Tea Quality Supervision, Inspection and Testing Center of the Ministry of Agriculture of China, this tea features plump and tender buds covered with fine white hairs. It tastes sweet and refreshing with a lingering chestnut fragrance, presenting the fine qualities of top-grade tea. It helps quench thirst, promote saliva secretion and refresh the mind.
