Cuisine of Hezhou
Hezhou boasts a rich and diverse food culture. Bordering Guangdong Province, it shares similar dining habits, with Cantonese cuisine dominating the local catering scene. A great variety of major Chinese cuisines including Sichuan, Hunan and Shandong styles are also widely available.
Restaurants, eateries and food stalls line streets and lanes across the city, offering an extensive selection of dishes and local snacks with wonderful flavors. Hezhou gathers delicacies from all over Guangxi, such as Guilin rice noodles, Liuzhou river snail noodles, Nanning old friend noodles and plain congee served with side dishes.
A bustling food street is located in the industrial and trade area of downtown Hezhou, ideal for a hearty feast in the evening. Local specialties include Fanglin water chestnuts, Etang green plums, Babu red melon seeds, Xindu longans and Shatian pomelos. Renowned delicacies cover Xindu three-yellow chicken, Huangtian braised pork, Huangtian beef blood soup (usually served in the morning) and Gupo Mountain rice wine.

Guilin Rice Noodles
Famous nationwide for its unique flavor, Guilin rice noodles adopt elaborate production techniques. Premium rice is ground into slurry, bagged and drained, then kneaded into dough, steamed and pressed into round strips or flat sheets. The round ones are called rice noodles, while the flat ones are sliced noodles, collectively known as rice noodles. They are snow-white, tender, smooth and refreshing to taste.

Huangtian Double Braised Pork
Huangtian braised pork is the most famous of its kind in Hezhou, made with taro and streaky pork. It has long been an indispensable dish for banquets held on the traditional Second Day of the Second Lunar Month in Huangtian.
Its signature feature is the double-layer wrapping: two connected pieces of streaky pork enclose deep-fried taro. Though made with fatty pork, the dish tastes light and non-greasy, melting instantly in the mouth.

Liuzhou River Snail Noodles
This specialty consists of rice noodles served with river snail meat. Two types of noodles are used: sliced noodles and freshly pressed round vermicelli, with seasoned river snail meat as the core topping.
Blanch the noodles in boiling water, drain and add toppings and rich broth, then sprinkle with a pinch of coriander. The noodles are savory and full of snail flavor. Adding chili sauce makes it extra refreshing and invigorating for spicy food lovers.
