As a renowned ancient town in Guangxi, Huangyao has a history of nearly a thousand years. It took shape in the Song Dynasty, flourished during the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty and reached its heyday in the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty. The town got its name because the Huang and Yao clans were the dominant local residents.
