Entertainment Guide to Sanniang Bay
Fun Activities in Sanniang Bay, Qinzhou, Guangxi
One of the highlights of Sanniang Bay is visiting the Sanpo Stones, which look like shooting stars landing on the beach. You can watch the rising sun in the early morning and enjoy the sunset glow in the evening here. You may also pay homage at Wulei Fubo Temple, explore Weide Temple and admire the relics commemorating the distinguished general of the Eastern Han Dynasty.
A more delightful experience is boarding a fishing boat for a sea tour. You can taste fresh seafood, feel the sea breeze and pick up shells along the shore. Undoubtedly, the most popular activity is heading out to sea to watch wild dolphins. Dolphins tend to gather in Sanniang Bay from September to November, yet sightings are not guaranteed on every boat trip.
If you are interested, you can join local fishermen to go fishing at 3 or 4 a.m. Alternatively, meet them when they return around 8 or 9 a.m., and buy fresh seafood such as mud crabs, sea shrimps and giant prawns to prepare a sumptuous seafood feast.
Special Festivals
Tiaolingtou Festival
It is a traditional folk festival celebrated by the Zhuang and Han ethnic groups in Qinzhou, held for about ten days around the Mid-Autumn Festival. In some areas, it takes place in the third or tenth lunar month. The festival gets its name because most activities are held on hills near villages.
During the festival, locals hold ancestor worship ceremonies, stage shaman operas and put on martial arts performances. The lively occasion ranks as the second most important festival here, second only to the Spring Festival.
International Dolphin Tourism Festival
The festival is mainly held in the picturesque Sanniang Bay, home to a large number of rare Chinese white dolphins. A rich variety of activities are organized during the event, including dolphin-watching cruises, dolphin photography contests, baby crawling races on the beach, sea fishing competitions, lantern fairs, beach cycling races and juice-making contests. It is one of the most renowned tourism festivals in Qinzhou.
