For travelers visiting Guangdong who want water activities to beat the summer heat, river drifting in Qingyuan is an essential summer experience. Many tourists take one-day drifting trips to Qingyuan from Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan and other cities to enjoy the thrills of summer river rafting.
Huangteng Gorge Drifting, Qingyuan
Itinerary
- Off weekdays: Drifting hours 11:00–16:00. The scenic area opens at 09:00. You may first enjoy mountain go-karts, mountain water park, sightseeing boardwalks and cable cars. At noon, taste local specialties in the scenic area, including authentic Qingyuan roast goose and native Qingyuan partridge chicken. Start drifting around 13:30 to experience the fun and excitement of Huangteng Gorge.
- Weekends: Drifting opens 09:30–16:00. You can go rafting in the morning and explore other facilities in the afternoon.
Self-Driving Routes
- Guangqing Expressway (Qingyuan Urban Exit) → Turn left onto Qingyuan Avenue after exiting the expressway, drive straight past traffic lights toward Fengcheng Bridge → Cross Fengcheng Bridge, turn right at the third traffic light and drive 3.8 km straight to Huangteng Gorge Ecotourism Zone.
- Guangqing Expressway (Yinzhan Exit) → Drive along National Highway 107 into the city, turn right at the first traffic light after crossing Beijiang Bridge and continue 4.8 km to Huangteng Gorge Ecotourism Zone.
Huanglong Gorge Drifting, Qingyuan

- Monday to Friday: 14:00–16:00
- Saturday & Sunday: 10:00–12:00, 14:00–16:00
Known as the first stop for Qingyuan rafting, this spot combines eco-tours with river drifting. The whole drifting journey lasts about 1.5 hours. Before or after rafting, you can visit the nearby Water Curtain Cave.
Self-Driving Route
Drive 200 meters forward from Yinzhan Toll Station of Guangqing Expressway, turn right and continue 8 kilometers to reach the scenic area.
Tiger Valley Underground River Drifting
Itinerary
Tiger Valley Underground River Drifting is part of the Yingxi Peak Forest Scenic Area. Depart for Qingyuan by vehicle at 08:00 to experience this underground rafting. Put on life jackets and board unpowered rubber boats. The full drifting course stretches over 3,800 meters with a total drop of 96 meters. It features China’s first underground drifting channel, an 860-meter subterranean river winding through mountains. The cave is adorned with vivid stalactite formations.
After lunch featuring mountain tofu feasts, head to the Yingxi Peak Forest to visit Rongqiang Mini Guilin, Mingjing Water Reflections, Zhaozhou Bridge (ticket required) and the Ten-Mile Gallery.
Transportation Route (Starting from Guangzhou)
Take National Highway 107 through Qingyuan. Continue north on National Highway 107 to Jintan Town, then turn east toward Jiulong Town of Yingde, and drive further north to Mingjing Town.
Alternative route via Yingde: Yingde is 135 km from Guangzhou; exit National Highway 107 onto Yin-Ying Highway.
