What Specialties Are There in Kaiping?

Lianzhu Fruit Sugarcane

Grown in Lianzhu, Shagang Sub-district, Lianzhu fruit sugarcane is a renowned specialty of Kaiping. It features a slender shape, plump internodes and pale yellow skin, hence earning the nickname "wax sugarcane". Boasting an intense sweet fruity flavour and a cooling nature that won’t cause internal heatiness, it is also known as fruit sugarcane.

Jinji Pachyrhizus

Originally called native melon or sand yam, it gets its name from Jinji Town where it is cultivated. It has thin skin, white flesh, a sweet, crisp taste and abundant juice with a smooth texture. It can be eaten raw or cooked, with its flavour at its finest when cooked.

Guiwei Lychee

Grown in Beitouzui Village, Magang Town, Beitou Guiwei lychee enjoys a great reputation across Guangdong Province, Hong Kong and Macao.

Longsheng Sweet Mandarins

Longsheng sweet mandarins are characterized by thin, attractive peel, sweet fragrance and few seeds, rich in vitamins and fruit acids. Its varieties include Yangshan mandarin, October mandarin and New Year mandarin.

Guanghe Fermented Bean Curd

Made from premium soybeans as the main raw material and pickled with a variety of traditional auxiliary ingredients, Guanghe fermented bean curd is a perfect table condiment for households, as well as an excellent seasoning for teahouses, restaurants and hotels.

Jinshan Fire Garlic

A major export agricultural product of Kaiping, it is named Jinshan fire garlic for its large-volume export via Jinshan Wharf. It features porcelain-white, thick flesh with high oil content, rich aroma and abundant gelatin, with bead-like fibrous veins on its cross-section.

Shuikou Chinese Cabbage

With a cultivation history of over 300 years, Shuikou Chinese cabbage has short stalks, plump stems and spoon-shaped leaves. Its white stalks and dark green leaves resemble a vase, and it is rich in chlorophyll and vitamins with a fresh, sweet and crisp taste.

Jiashili Biscuits

Manufactured by Kaiping Jiashili Biscuit Co., Ltd., Jiashili biscuits are sold far to many countries and regions including the United States, Canada, the Middle East and Hong Kong, ranking among the top enterprises in the national biscuit industry.

Dongshan Honey

Produced in Dongshan Town, which boasts extensive woodlands and abundant nectar sources, making it an ideal place for honey production. Among all local honey varieties, the winter-harvested "Saoguanzi" honey stands out for its superior quality and high yield.

Tanbi Winter Melon

Grown in Cangcheng Town, Tanbi winter melon has a planting history of more than 200 years. Slightly smaller than ordinary winter melons, each melon weighs around 3 kilograms. It has thick flesh, sparse seeds, firm pulp and a fresh, sweet crisp texture. It is highly storable, retaining moisture without mildewing even after long-term storage, and works well to clear summer heat and relieve fever.
