Local Specialties of Huizhou

Huizhou lies in the subtropical zone, framed by rolling mountains and winding rivers. It boasts abundant natural resources and fresh fruits and vegetables, including many exclusive local specialties unavailable elsewhere.
The signature produce includes Huizhou preserved mustard greens, Suluo vegetables from Luofu Mountain, Luofu Hundred-Herb Oil, Luofu Mountain Sweet Tea, Dongjiang Glutinous Rice Wine, Guanyin Greens from Nankun Mountain, Longmen bamboo shoots, Longmen bamboo toothpicks, Longmen rice noodles, Boluo crisp candy, Boluo preserved fruits, litchis, longans, mangoes and citrus fruits.

Luofu Mountain Sweet Tea

This exclusive local specialty is handcrafted by tea farmers living on Luofu Mountain. They pick unique wild tea plants native to the mountain and process the leaves with distinctive traditional techniques. The tea tastes sweet and mellow, and helps clear internal heat, quench thirst, promote fluid production, stimulate appetite and relieve indigestion.

Boluo Preserved Fruits

Boluo produces over a hundred varieties of preserved fruits, such as tangerine peel plums, licorice plums, preserved ginger with plum flavor, candied prunes and snake gall tangerine peel. These delicacies enjoy an outstanding reputation in Hong Kong, Macao and Southeast Asia.

Huizhou Preserved Mustard Greens

An iconic traditional specialty unique to Huizhou, preserved mustard greens feature a golden hue and rich aromatic fragrance. They taste fresh, sweet and crisp, with a mild nature that is neither cold, dry, damp nor fiery, earning them the folk nickname "vitality vegetable".
They can be cooked as an independent dish, or used as an ingredient to make classic dishes including steamed pork with preserved mustard greens, steamed beef with preserved mustard greens and steamed fresh fish with preserved mustard greens.

Boluo Crisp Candy

Made from locally grown black and white sesame seeds, mixed with maltose, white granulated sugar and flour, this candy is flaky, crisp and pleasantly sweet without cloying sweetness. It is an authentic specialty exclusively produced in Boluo.

Suluo Vegetables from Luofu Mountain

Also known as "Immortal Greens", these dried vegetables are a specialty of Suluo Village on the northern peak of Luofu Mountain. They feature tender flesh with minimal fibrous texture, making them a premium ingredient for soups. They also clear internal heat and moisten the lungs.

Luofu Hundred-Herb Oil

Blended from more than a hundred medicinal herbs grown on Luofu Mountain, this oil has mild medicinal properties and a pleasant fragrance with remarkable therapeutic effects. It can be taken orally or applied externally, and is an essential household remedy widely used across Southeast Asia.

Dongjiang Glutinous Rice Wine

Brewed from premium glutinous rice with a one-of-a-kind formula, this wine naturally develops a rich red hue free of artificial colorants and a pure sweetness without synthetic flavorings. It carries a strong, elegant aroma and is rich in glucose, making it an ideal treat for banquets and gift-giving.

Guanyin Greens from Nankun Mountain

Shaped like orchid leaves, these pollution-free emerald greens deliver a layered flavor profile: an initial leek-like taste, followed by hints of garlic, green onion, subtle bitterness and lingering sweetness. They help dispel dampness and remove blood stasis from the body.

Longmen Bamboo Shoots

Longmen County abounds in moso bamboo. During the bamboo shoot harvest season, farmers dig up tender shoots suitable for processing, which are then sorted and refined.
Dried Longmen bamboo shoots are golden, sweet, crisp and delicious, and serve as an excellent pairing ingredient for all kinds of meat dishes.

Longmen Bamboo Toothpicks

Crafted from high-quality bamboo, Longmen bamboo toothpicks come in a full range of specifications. Most visitors take home packs of these toothpicks after visiting Longmen, as they work perfectly for daily household use or as small gifts for friends. Their practical value far exceeds their basic function as toothpicks.

Longmen Rice Noodles

Produced from premium yellow glutinous rice, Longmen rice noodles are translucent, silky, crisp and resilient, resistant to breaking during cooking. They suit diners of all ages as a staple food. For breakfast, they can be eaten dry or served in rich broth, making them a rare local treasure.

Huizhou Litchis

Huizhou litchis have a distinctive shape and eye-catching bright red skin. Their flesh is smooth and creamy with a sweet, strong fragrance. Fresh litchis hit the market successively in the third lunar month, with peak harvest falling in the fifth and sixth lunar months.

Longans

Large quantities of fresh longans become available around August for seasonal tasting. Dried longan pulp processed from fresh fruit is a nourishing tonic. Huizhou grows numerous longan varieties, with major plantations in Huiyang, Huidong, Boluo and Huicheng District.

Mangoes

Huizhou cultivates a wide selection of mango varieties, mainly grown in Huidong, Huiyang, Boluo and Huicheng District.

Citrus Fruits

Huizhou produces a complete range of mandarins and oranges, cultivated across all counties and districts of the city as one of its core fruit crops. Popular by-products include candied orange slices and fresh orange juice.
