What Local Specialties Does Dongguan Have?
Dongguan’s local specialties and tourist souvenirs include Dalang lychees and dried lychees, Houjie preserved sausages, Humen creamy crabs, Guan incense (agarwood), miniature models of the Humen Opium Destruction Site, commemorative keychains themed on the First Opium War, and garments from Humen.
Shopping in Dongguan is extremely convenient. The city is home to more than 20,000 shopping malls of all sizes, with several mega supermarkets and themed shopping parks under construction. Major retail chains such as Walmart, Carrefour, Jusco and ParknShop operate here. Commercial pedestrian streets in Dongcheng and Nancheng Districts are ideal spots for leisure shopping and picking up tourist souvenirs.
Thanks to the rapid economic growth in recent years, several major shopping zones have taken shape across Dongguan. There are a host of specialized wholesale markets: the Humen Garment Market, Houjie Furniture Market, Dalang Wool Textile Market, Dongguan Beijing-Kowloon International Toy & Gift Trade City in Changping, and Huangjiang Auto Parts Market, to name a few.
Dongguan boasts numerous distinctive shopping streets, including Xizheng Road Gold & Luxury Goods Street, Zhenhua Road Traditional Lingnan Commercial Street and Maihao Ladies’ Street. Additionally, South China Mall, a gigantic integrated themed shopping complex combining shopping, leisure, entertainment and tourism, has emerged as a brand-new destination for tourist shopping in Dongguan. It houses well-known brands and outlets including Trust-Mart, Metro, OBI, boutique plazas, gift shops, book cafes, music bars, McDonald’s and KFC.
