Where is Qionghai Lake located?
Qionghai Lake, anciently known as Qiongcchi, lies in Xichang City, Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province. Approved by the State Council, it was listed in the fourth batch of National Scenic Areas in May 2002.
As the second largest freshwater lake in Sichuan, it is merely 7 kilometers away from downtown Xichang and has practically merged with the urban area. Nestled at the northeastern foot of Lushan Mountain and the northern side of Luoji Mountain, the lake boasts vast crystal-clear waters stretching for miles amid picturesque mountains and drifting clouds. It covers an area of approximately 31 square kilometers.
Shaped like a snail, the lake has its "head" near the lake outlet of the Haihe River in the northwest. It is 11.5 kilometers long, with a maximum width of 5.5 kilometers and an average width of 2.7 kilometers. The total shoreline extends 35 kilometers. The lake basin is pot-shaped, with sharp depth variations from the bank to the center. Most parts of the lake are over 15 meters deep.
