Niubei Mountain is located in Yingjing County, Ya'an City, Sichuan Province, bordering Luding County. As a branch of the Erlang Mountain range, it forms the watershed between the Qingyi River and the Dadu River. Its summit stands at an altitude of 3,600 meters. The mountain gets its name from a huge boulder jutting out from a cliff on the mountaintop, which looks just like an ox head, while its slender ridge resembles an ox's back.
With an elevation of around 3,660 meters, Niubei Mountain features a unique terrain: it rises abruptly amid surrounding mountains. This special geographical position earns it the reputation as China’s largest 360° panoramic viewing platform and a top photography paradise.
From here, you can see the Niba Mountain, Wawu Mountain, Mount Emei, Jiajin Mountain, Siguniang Mountain and Erlang Mountain in the foreground, the Gongga Snow Mountain on one side, and the Dadu River Grand Canyon in the background. Nearly all the renowned peaks and lofty mountains of Sichuan appear like exquisite miniature landscapes.
Standing atop Niubei Mountain and looking around, you will behold sea of clouds and cloud waterfalls rolling beneath your feet. The clouds are sometimes as soft and smooth as silk, and sometimes surge fiercely like tidal waves. Its magnificent cloud waterfalls are second to none, giving rise to a popular saying: After seeing the clouds on Niubei Mountain, no other clouds are worth viewing.
Layer upon layer of mountains stretch out in all directions. Snow-capped peaks, Buddha's halo, rainbows and morning glow often grace the scenery. The mountain presents distinct breathtaking views across seasons: golden peaks, ethereal sea of clouds, gorgeous radiant lights, rolling mountain ranges and blooming azaleas all come into view, making visitors feel as if they have stepped into a fairyland.
