Benxi Water Cave (5A-level Scenic Area)

Benxi Water Cave Scenic Area is located in Benxi City, Liaoning Province. It consists of six scenic zones: the Water Cave, Hot Spring Temple, Tanggou, Guanmen Mountain, Tiesha Mountain and Miaohou Mountain. Stretching along the Taizi River in a belt shape, the total area reaches 44.72 square kilometres.

Centred on Benxi Water Cave, the scenic area integrates mountains, rivers, caves, springs, lakes and paleoanthropological cultural relics into one landscape.

Benxi Water Cave is a large water-filled limestone karst cave formed millions of years ago. The cave is deep and spacious. At present, 3,000 metres of underground river have been opened to tourists. The water flows all year round and is crystal clear. Stalactites grow abundantly on the ceiling and rock walls in countless fantastic shapes. Boating inside the cave makes visitors reluctant to leave.

In the Hot Spring Temple Zone, the spring water maintains a constant temperature of 44 degrees Celsius with a daily flow of 400 tons, possessing great medicinal value.

The ancient cultural site at Miaohou Mountain is an early Paleolithic cave site in Northeast China. It is of great significance for the research on the distribution of ancient humans and ancient geography in Liaodong.

As the longest water-filled karst cave discovered in the world, Benxi Water Cave has been nominated for the World Record by the China World Record Association.
