Benxi boasts stunning natural scenery and a long history. Ancient human relics dating back 400,000 to 500,000 years from the Paleolithic Age were unearthed at the Miaohou Mountain archaeological site. The city has nearly a thousand scenic spots with pleasant views all year round. Summer and autumn bring the most breathtaking landscapes. If you travel here in winter, the weather turns rather cold, and many famous scenic spots lose their appeal.

Benxi Water Cave is the world’s longest underground water-filled karst cave ever discovered. The cave runs deep underground. It was officially opened to tourists in 1983 and has developed into a well-established scenic spot. Visitors can take boats to cruise through the enormous cave, whose length is rarely seen elsewhere in the world. The most amazing sight is the cascading waterfalls inside, which never fail to impress tourists.

Guanmen Mountain Scenic Area is another fantastic attraction. Two mountains stand facing each other: one is broad while the other is narrow, just like a huge gate, hence the name Guanmen Mountain (Gate Mountain). There are three mountain passes, and any of them leads to the main peak. Sunny days are ideal for visiting. The mountain is covered with gorgeous red and yellow foliage in brilliant colours.
