Anshan is China’s renowned "Steel Capital". Many people only know Anshan Iron and Steel Group (Angang) rather than the city of Anshan itself, which speaks volumes about Angang’s immense influence. The towering blast furnaces and factory buildings of Angang form a distinctive cityscape of Anshan. Moreover, urban industrial tourism centered around Angang has gained great popularity recently and is now in its prime travel season.
Qianshan Mountain lies 20 kilometers to the southeast of downtown Anshan. Reputed as "the No.1 Mountain in Northeast China", it is a famous scenic spot in central Liaoning. Fei Xiaotong once praised it with the line: "Huangshan Mountain stands in the south, Qianshan Mountain rises in the north." In spring, azaleas and pear blossoms bloom profusely on Qianshan; in summer, lilies blossom alongside gurgling mountain springs. Autumn brings red foliage covering the mountains and the sweet fragrance of Nanguo pears drifting everywhere. Winter blankets green pines with heavy snow, and the whole mountain wrapped in silver presents an exceptionally enchanting sight. Qianshan is a wonderful tourist destination all year round.

Recommended Attractions in Anshan

Qianshan Mountain

Located 17 kilometers southeast of urban Anshan, Liaoning Province, Qianshan Mountain is a branch of the Changbai Mountain Range. It gets its name, which literally means "Thousand Mountains", from its nearly one thousand peaks, and is known as the "Pearl of Northeast China".
Qianshan’s four core landscapes consist of grotesque peaks, pine trees growing on rocky cliffs, ancient temples and pear blossoms. Geographically, it is divided into four scenic zones: Northern, Central, Southern and Western, containing 20 sub-scenic areas and 228 scenic spots scattered across multiple mountain valleys. Its most famous sites include Immortal Platform, the ideal spot to watch the sunrise, and the extraordinary Qianshan Maitreya Giant Buddha.
Boasting exquisite scenery that varies dramatically with each season, Qianshan is a scenic resort integrating ancient temples and mountain gardens within a single mountain range.
Immortal Platform is Qianshan’s highest peak, home to numerous time-honored historic relics. Five major Buddhist temples and three Taoist temples—Wuliangguan, Zhonghui Temple, Da’an Temple and Xiangyan Temple—are all situated within this scenic zone.
The Qianshan Maitreya Giant Buddha is a natural sitting Maitreya Buddha sculpted entirely from a single mountain massif. The Buddha faces east toward the west, with its left hand spread open and resting naturally on its knee, while its right hand clenched into a fist presses against its right thigh. A string of prayer beads is faintly visible hanging on its chest, and a natural cave on its torso forms the Buddha’s navel. Research dates its formation back roughly 100 million years. This world wonder ranks alongside the Leshan Giant Buddha and the Bronze Buddha of Hong Kong as one of China’s three great giant Buddhas.

Tanggangzi Hot Springs

Tanggangzi Hot Springs is one of China’s time-honored famous hot springs. Using hot spring water for physical therapy and disease prevention boasts a history of three to four thousand years in China. Since the Ming and Qing dynasties, buildings and bathing facilities have been built here, drawing an endless stream of visitors seeking hot spring treatments. In modern history, Tsarist Russia, northeastern warlords and Japanese invaders seized the hot springs one after another, constructing mansions and villas here for them to "cleanse their minds and prolong life". After 1945, the hot spring resort suffered severe damage under the Kuomintang rule. Today, Tanggangzi Hot Springs has been developed into a nationally renowned physical therapy and rehabilitation center.
Admission Ticket: 40 RMB

Baiyun Mountain (Haicheng)

Haicheng’s Baiyun Mountain is situated east of Gushan Town in Haicheng City, covering a total area of 38.3 square kilometers. It is split into 8 scenic zones with more than 200 spots and 450 large and small peaks. This forest park is celebrated for its jagged exotic rock formations and dense woodland. Immortal Cave within the park is a Neolithic human settlement site and a National Key Cultural Relic Protection Unit.

Longquan Temple

Nestled in the eastern part of the northern valley of Qianshan Mountain, 20 kilometers east of Anshan urban area, Longquan Temple is the largest surviving Buddhist temple among Qianshan’s five major Buddhist complexes. Surrounded by strange peaks and ancient pine forests, it is famous for its long history, well-proportioned architecture, and layout that blends harmoniously with natural scenery. There are four legends behind the name "Longquan" (Dragon Spring):
  1. A spring trickles out from a rock crevice in front of the Vairocana Hall, its winding stream resembling a dragon.
  2. A central spring inside the temple flows all year round like water spouted from a dragon’s mouth.
  3. The temple faces a front mountain and backs onto a rear mountain; the left mountain stands as Azure Dragon and the right as White Tiger. The spring rises beneath the Buddha hall foundation north of a small mountain ridge, hence the combined name Longquan of mountain and spring.
  4. Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty stationed his troops on Qianshan during his eastern expedition and personally drank from this spring, giving it the name Longquan.
Admission Ticket: Included in Qianshan Mountain’s general entry ticket.

Dongshan Park

Dongshan Park lies on the eastern side of Anshan’s urban district, spanning 975 hectares, including 946 hectares of woodland and 22 hectares of water areas. It is a well-known urban forest park in Northeast China. Lush green mountains and clear waters set off pagodas and pavilions, with winding mountain paths revealing new vistas at every step. Standing atop the mountain peak, visitors can gaze far at the imposing silhouette of Qianshan and overlook the entire steel city, experiencing the captivating artistic conception: Mountains lie within the city, waters nestle in mountains, dwellings hide amid woods, and people dwell surrounded by greenery.

Goddess Peak

Goddess Peak is located roughly 40 kilometers east of Haicheng City, covering a total area of 38.3 square kilometers with 8 scenic zones, over 200 spots and 450 peaks of varying sizes. This forest park is famed for its grotesque rock peaks and thick forests. Immortal Cave inside the park is a Neolithic human site listed as a National Key Cultural Relic Protection Unit. Goddess Peak boasts flourishing vegetation and abundant fruit trees. Seabed reefs formed 2.4 billion years ago and Quaternary glacial rocks scatter across the land, forming the stunning Goddess Peak, a miraculous masterpiece of nature. Viewed from the bridge, the peak resembles the head of a beautiful maiden; seen from the mountain gate, it takes the shape of a handsome young man’s face. Other unique landforms include Guanyin Peak, Camel Peak, Ape Head Rock and Heavenly Pillar. Visitors can also explore ruins of ancient Tang Dynasty temples, ancient wells with perennial spring water, and abandoned ancient iron mining caves for adventure and historical exploration.
