Thousand-Buddha Temple is situated at the foot of Qianfo Mountain in Xingdao Village, thirty li away from the county seat. The temple originally contained five halls, first built in the first year of the Yongxi reign of Emperor Xiaowu of the Northern Wei Dynasty (532 AD).

Carved on the cliff inside the temple, which stands over three metres high and nine metres wide, are more than 1,100 cliff Buddha statues. The largest figures measure more than one foot tall, while the smallest are merely an inch high. These statues were crafted during the Northern Wei, Eastern Wei, Sui and Tang dynasties.

Though weathered by wind and rain over centuries, the cliff carvings still retain smooth lines with distinct and vivid images. The exquisite carving craftsmanship can be hailed as a masterpiece rivaling natural creation
