Three metres above the foundation on all four sides of the cylinder, four rectangular stone tablets are embedded. They record the original construction and renovations during the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty, as well as the Kangxi and Tongzhi reigns of the Qing Dynasty.
The Ming Wanli stele is on the north side, relatively small, about 60 cm long and 40 cm wide. Its characters have faded badly due to centuries of wind and rain erosion, and it is presumed to be the original inscription naming the pagoda "Wenfeng Pagoda".
The Kangxi stele is set on the south face, measuring approximately 80 cm by 65 cm, bearing the words: "Renovated in the last month of summer, the forty-sixth year of the Kangxi reign of our dynasty" together with other text.
The remaining two tablets date back to the Tongzhi reign, similar in size to the Kangxi stele. The eastern tablet carries the full inscription
Record of Renovating the Stone Pagoda on Tianjun Mountain, dated the seventh lunar month of the ninth year of the Tongzhi reign (1870).
