The Secret Land of Lüdong · Sacred Mountain of the Miao Ancestors

Lüdong Mountain is a national 3A-level scenic area. It lies in Hangsha Township, Baojing County, Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, 21 kilometers away from Jishou, the prefectural capital. Its main peak, Grandpa Mountain, stands over 1,200 meters above sea level. Legend holds that it is the incarnation of Lidong, the 12th Miao King.

The charm of Lüdong Mountain lies in its sacred peaks, Miao villages, waterfalls, Miao drums, ethnic customs, local delicacies, Miao paintings and golden tea. Tourists visiting Lüdong Mountain often exclaim: The mountains belong to Zhangjiajie, the waters to Jiuzhaigou, yet the Miao villages of Lüdong Mountain outshine all under heaven.
