Yuxi Forest Park lies merely one kilometer from the county seat’s downtown area, covering a land area of 1,030 mu. Bordered by water on three sides and backed by a mountain on the fourth, the park stretches from north to south, commonly known as the "Peerless Garden" of Central South China.

Rolling low hills spread across the park, blanketed in luxuriant trees. Exotic flowers and rare herbs adorn the landscape, presenting distinct scenery for each of the four seasons. In addition, Idesia polycarpa, a living plant fossil, grows all over the park. Perched atop the main peak stands the tomb of Mr. Yuan Jiliu, Mao Zedong’s mentor. Inlaid in the center of the tombstone is a marble slab engraved with seven gilded characters handwritten by Mao Zedong: Tomb of Mr. Yuan Jiliu.

Carved into the sheer cliff on the western side are cliff burial niches dating back to the Sui and Tang dynasties, shrouded in an air of mystery and allure. At the stone cave entrance on the cliff wall, smoke curls continuously from the Earth Mother Temple. To the east of the park stands a hillock protruding from the bank of a sharp 90-degree bend of the Youshui River, where the water flows south then loops back north. The mound resembles a figure twisting its head to gaze back at the ancient Qianling Town, hence named Wangxiang Platform (Hometown Viewing Terrace). Facing it across the river are Stone Chamber Immortal Cave, one of the Eight Ancient Sights of old Qianling, and towering Filial Piety Rock.

At the heart of the park rises a relatively high hillside known as General’s Hill. During the Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty, General Peng Jinchen, a famed anti-pirate commander, would bring his officers and soldiers here to chat and take leisurely walks during breaks from military training. The park also features a large public sports square and the Yang Xia Gymnasium, built in memory of weightlifting Olympic champion Yang Xia, who brought glory to the nation.
