Where is Guoliang & Is It Worth Visiting?
Guoliang lies 60 kilometers northwest of Huixian City, Henan Province. Sitting at an altitude of over 1,700 meters, it is famous for its graceful mountain ranges and distinctive stone houses. Nowadays, it has become a popular destination for painters, photography enthusiasts, outdoor sports lovers and backpackers.
Generally speaking, Guoliang refers to the Taihang Mountain — Wanxian Mountain Scenic Area, which encompasses several natural villages including Guoliang Village and Nanping Village. Its major attractions are Guoliang Tunnel, Guoliang Village, karst caves and the Sky Ladder.
Guoliang Tunnel
It is the only access road from Shayao Township to Guoliang Village, clinging to a sheer cliff with a 90-degree gradient. As the landmark of Guoliang Village, it is hailed as a marvelous wonder across the country.
Guoliang Village
Also known as China's No.1 Film and Television Village, it has served as the outdoor shooting location for more than 40 films and TV dramas, such as Bell Ringing at Qingliang Temple and Beyond the Horizon. Home to over 80 households, the village residents are simple and hospitable, and numerous inns can be found here.
Karst Caves
There are a great many karst caves around Guoliang Village. Four of them have been opened to tourists: White Dragon Cave, Black Dragon Cave, Red Dragon Cave and Yellow Dragon Cave. These caves are compact and exquisitely shaped. Seldom visited by crowds, they feature a serene natural atmosphere and abundant wild charm.
Sky Ladder
This is a zigzag path chiseled right into the precipice. It leads up to Guoliang Village and down to Xitipo Village.

Tips
There are plenty of family-run inns in Guoliang Village. A combined board and lodging package costs 15 to 20 yuan per person per day. Accommodation in Nanping Village is priced similarly.
