Sanmenxia boasts time-honored relics of Chinese civilization as well as magnificent natural scenery. A two-day itinerary is recommended to explore its major attractions thoroughly. Embark on an unforgettable journey across this cradle of the Chinese nation.

In the morning, take a coach to the Yangshao Cultural Site, around 100 kilometers from the urban area. Here you can view various stone artifacts from the Neolithic Age and learn about the origins of Chinese civilization.

After lunch, head back to the city and visit the renowned Yellow River Dam. Known as the First Dam on the Yellow River, it features precipitous canyons, picturesque landscapes, a towering dam and vast water areas.

Later, proceed to the grand watchtower inside Shanzhou Park on Taiyang Road. Standing tall across the street, this ancient building has endured the test of time and presents an imposing look.

There are few restaurants near the Yangshao Cultural Site. It is advised to bring your own food and drinking water for lunch.

Set off for Hanshan Mountain in the morning. It is both a national forest park and a national geopark, featuring majestic peaks, lush forests, beautiful scenery and profound cultural heritage.

After lunch and a short rest, travel to Ganshan National Forest Park. Its most distinctive sights are ancient trees that have stood for thousands of years, still thriving with dense foliage.

History and culture enthusiasts can spend a full day exploring Hangu Pass.

As one of the earliest strategic fortresses in Chinese history, Hangu Pass was an ancient battlefield famed for the saying: "One man holding the pass can defy ten thousand enemies". It is also the place where Laozi, the great ancient thinker and philosopher, wrote the 5,000-character classic Tao Te Ching.

Transportation: Take a bus from Sanmenxia Bus Station to Lingbao. Upon arrival at Lingbao Bus Station, transfer to Bus No.1 and then Bus No.8 to reach the scenic area.

The pass comprises over 20 scenic spots, including Taichu Palace, Daosheng Palace, Taoist Health Preservation Garden, Scripture Repository, Purple View Tower, Cockcrow Platform, Forest of Steles, Wax Museum, Exhibition Hall, Pass Tower and the Ancient Hangu Path. You can tour all these sites in one day and experience the profound and extensive history and culture here.

In the afternoon, take a bus back to Sanmenxia from Lingbao Bus Station to conclude the tour.
