1. Hengshui Lake Scenic Area
For a spring outing, Hengshui Lake, known as the "Mother Lake" of local people, is the top choice.
A national AAAA-level water conservancy scenic spot and national nature reserve, it covers a total area of 268 square kilometers. Boasting abundant biodiversity, the reserve mainly protects inland freshwater wetland ecosystems as well as Class I and Class II national protected birds.
Elegant red-crowned cranes, graceful swans, nimble gulls and light egrets dance and play freely here. It is truly a fairyland on earth and a paradise for birds.
The superior natural environment provides ideal living and breeding conditions for wild fauna and flora. The reserve is home to 370 plant species, 194 insect species, 26 fish species, 17 amphibian and reptile species, 296 bird species, 17 mammal species, 201 phytoplankton species, 174 zooplankton species and 23 benthic species.

Bird resources stand out among all wildlife here. There are 7 species of Class I nationally protected birds, including red-crowned crane, white crane, black stork, oriental white stork, great bustard, golden eagle and imperial eagle. Another 44 species are under Class II national protection, such as whooper swan, mute swan and grey crane.
Hundreds of thousands of summer migratory birds nest and breed here every year, mainly including whiskered terns and black-winged stilts. Over 3,000 grey cranes and tens of thousands of wild geese spend the winter here. Huge flocks of starlings darken the sky, forming a spectacular natural sight.
Beyond rich biodiversity and stunning natural scenery, Hengshui Lake also features a profound time-honored cultural heritage.
Jizhou Ancient City on the southern bank of the lake was built in 201 BC, the sixth year of the reign of Emperor Gaozu of the Han Dynasty. As an old saying goes, "Among the nine ancient provinces of China, Jizhou ranks first". Remains of Han and Ming city walls, numerous Han Dynasty ancient tombs, stone steles, the stone mill of Madam Li, together with legends about monks ascending to heaven from Zhulin Temple, showcase the integrated natural, historical and cultural charm of Hengshui Lake.
Transportation
- Public transport: Take Bus No.18 and get off at Hengshui Lake Stop.
- Self-driving (within the city): Drive south along Hongqi Street in downtown Hengshui for about 13 kilometers to reach the scenic area.
- Vehicles from other cities: Exit from Taocheng Toll Station on Daguang Expressway, head west all the way to East Lake Avenue, then drive north for around 4 kilometers to arrive.
2. Garden Expo Park
Hosting the First Hebei Provincial Garden Expo, the park covers a total planned area of 254 hectares. It consists of four integrated sections: the main Garden Expo Park, wetland park, marathon square and lotus park.
The main Garden Expo Park, located between East Lake Avenue and the Old Salt River, is a newly built garden spanning 89.19 hectares.
The existing Hengshui Lake Wetland Park, marathon square and lotus park have been renovated and upgraded. They complement the main area perfectly, forming a cohesive wetland garden landscape for the expo.

- Public transport: Take Bus No.18 and get off at Hengshui Lake Stop.
- Self-driving (within the city): Drive south along Hongqi Street for about 13 kilometers to reach the park.
- Vehicles from other cities: Exit from Taocheng Toll Station on Daguang Expressway, head west to East Lake Avenue, then drive north for roughly 4 kilometers.
3. Hengshui Zoo
For families with kids, spending a whole day here makes for a relaxing and delightful short trip. It brings children closer to nature and helps cultivate their love for animals and sense of responsibility.

4. Zhouwo Music Town
Musical instrument manufacturing is the leading industry of Zhouwo Town. There are 13 enterprises engaged in instrument production and supporting processing. Among them, Jinyin Group, the leading company, ranks first in China and second worldwide in the production of western wind instruments.
Shops along the streets have been uniformly renovated. New leisure venues including music bars, cafes, music accessory stores, expert villas and music studios have been built, attracting musicians from home and abroad to settle here.
Domestic and international music events are held regularly every year, such as the Wheat Field Music Festival and Guitar Culture Festival. These activities boost talent training, music creation, instrument sales, catering, hotels and other related industries.
Self-driving Route
Drive 4.8 kilometers north along Ronghua North Street in Taocheng District to join Provincial Highway S282. Continue for 23.2 kilometers to enter Qiyin Highway, then drive 16.4 kilometers to Jinyin Street. Proceed 150 meters to reach Zhouwo Music Town.
5. Fuyang River Scenic Area
Spring is in full bloom, and beautiful scenery is just around the corner. If you do not want to travel far, take a casual walk along the Fuyang River for a wonderful spring outing. Cherry blossoms and crabapple flowers are in full bloom, paired with graceful willows and fragrant breezes everywhere.

Cherry blossoms in Hokkaido of Japan and Wuhan University are incredibly romantic, yet those places are quite far away. You can enjoy beautiful cherry blossoms right here. Along the 10-kilometer riverbank of Fuyang River stand around 800 cherry trees. Blossoms stretch in full bloom especially between Zhonghua Street and Yucai Street. The flowering period only lasts about 10 days, so don’t miss it.
Crabapple flowers (blooming period: March to April)
Graceful and gorgeous, crabapple flowers have long been beloved by people of all social classes. The scenic area features various varieties including chaenomeles, Chinese flowering crabapple, weeping crabapple and North American crabapple. A dedicated crabapple garden is planned to introduce more varieties, allowing visitors to appreciate both the flowers and the profound crabapple culture
