Suyu Park

Suyu Park is located in the southern suburbs of Huitong County seat, Hunan Province. It was built in 1985 under the auspices of the CPC Huitong County Committee and the county people’s government. The park features memorial landmarks including the Monument to Comrade Suyu and the Memorial Hall of Comrade Suyu.

In 1986, Zhang Aiping inscribed the name of the monument. The whole monument stands 11.2 metres tall, with the main stele reaching 7.6 metres — a tribute marking General Suyu’s lifespan of 76 years. The four sides of the stele bear inscriptions by Zhang Zhen, Mao Zhiyong and other leaders. In the centre of the pedestal rests an urn containing part of General Suyu’s ashes.

In September 1991, Yang Shangkun, President of the People’s Republic of China, personally inscribed the horizontal board for the Memorial Hall of Comrade Suyu. The memorial hall enjoys a favourable location with convenient transport and communications. The Zhijiang-Liuzhou Railway runs through the city, and National Highway 209 passes right in front of the hall. Surrounded by green hills and clear waters, it is a key tourist attraction for visitors.

The park houses the Suyu Memorial Hall, the Monument to Suyu, the Memorial Pavilion for Martyr He Qiong, the Long March Memorial Pavilion, the Liberation Pavilion, as well as other leisure and recreational facilities.

Nestled between mountains and rivers, the park is covered with lush trees. Pavilions and stone monuments set off one another, creating charming scenery, fresh air and a serene environment. It embodies classic Chinese garden styles and ethnic features, making it an ideal holiday resort. Tourists can wander along winding paths and enjoy peaceful leisure, or climb up the mountain to overlook the whole mountain city of Huitong
