Yue Opera Museum

The Yue Opera Museum is China’s first professional opera museum. Nestled at the foot of Lutaishan Mountain, it adjoins two local landmarks to its east and west: the No.1 Building of Streams and Hills, a renowned scenic spot in the land of Yue, and the Home of Yue Opera, hailed as the cradle of Yue Opera artists. The celebrated Yue Opera performing artist Yuan Xuefen serves as its honorary curator. Its quaint, elegant architecture blends harmoniously with melodious Yue Opera tunes, making it a key national centre for Yue Opera research and cultural relic exhibition.

After years of refinement, the museum has collected, sorted, displayed and preserved tens of thousands of historical documents and cultural relics tracing the evolution of Yue Opera, providing detailed, comprehensive and systematic materials for historical research and the thriving development of this opera genre. The museum features over 140 display panels, nearly 800 photographs and more than 300 physical artefacts. These exhibits systematically and vividly chronicle the ups and downs of Yue Opera and its journey to prosperity across three distinct eras, showcased in three dedicated exhibition halls:

Since its grand opening on 18 October 1990, the museum has won immense popularity among visitors at home and abroad, drawing an endless stream of guests. Tourists, overseas Chinese, compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan have flocked here from Italy, Japan, the United States, Singapore, Brazil and other regions, with a total visitor volume of 50,000 to date. The museum will continue to collect historical records and physical relics related to Yue Opera, constantly enrich and upgrade its collections, and host academic seminars on Yue Opera art at regular intervals, striving to contribute to the revitalisation and prosperity of Yue Opera
