One-Day Tour of Eribugai Canyon

Eribugai Canyon lies 54 kilometers south of Badain Jaran Town, Right Alxa Banner, and 12 kilometers from the former Eribugai Sumu. The vast canyon stretches for dozens of kilometers with crisscrossing ravines. Its ground is covered with wind-eroded rocks in crimson and reddish-brown hues, glowing "like cinnabar dyed fabric, bright as rosy dawn". It features typical Danxia landforms formed during the Cretaceous Period, roughly 65 to 137 million years ago.

After hundreds of millions of years of weathering and water erosion, the canyon boasts distinctive steep cliffs dozens of meters high, with the tallest peaks soaring over a hundred meters. Countless caves of varying sizes honeycomb these cliffs, many interconnected to form natural habitats for wild animals such as blue sheep, wild pigeons and flying squirrels. Pagoda-shaped rock formations and clusters of grotesque stones stand throughout the canyon.

Its most renowned natural rock landscapes include "Frog Questioning Heaven", "One-Line Sky", "Pigsy Holding a Mirror", "Dragon Head" and "The Leaning Tower of Pisa". These extraordinary geological shapes shroud the canyon in mystery, drawing countless tourists.

Halfway up a stone cliff in the middle section of the canyon juts a huge rock resembling both a dragon’s head and a camel’s head, revered by locals as the Divine Stone. Five kilometers east of the canyon stands the Giant Writing Cliff, over 100 meters tall and extremely precipitous. Looking down from its summit, cars below appear no bigger than matchboxes. At the foot of the cliffs in the canyon center rests a massive stone frog with its mouth wide open toward the sky, seemingly praying for favorable weather and the well-being of local people.
