Wuzhai Hunting Ground – Brief Introduction
Approved by the Ministry of Public Security of the People’s Republic of China and the Forestry Department of Shanxi Province, Wuzhai Hunting Ground is the largest permanent hunting ground in North China. It covers a total area of 560,000 mu. The Guancen Mountain Range runs through the entire hunting ground from north to south, with its main peak Luya Mountain designated as a national nature reserve. A well-preserved primeval secondary forest spanning 300,000 mu also lies within the area.
The hunting ground features typical landforms of the Loess Plateau. Eroded by rainfall, the high mountains are crisscrossed by gullies, while the hilly areas boast gentle slopes. Shrubs such as sea buckthorn and caragana form the dominant vegetation. Two rolling hilly ridges stretch from east to west, covered with 560,000 mu of dense caragana shrubs that resemble an endless green ocean where birds and wild animals roam freely.
Thanks to long-term sound state protection of local natural resources, this area has become a habitat for more than 180 species of wild birds and animals, including Mongolian gazelles, wild boars, foxes, forest musk deer, roe deer, badgers, pheasants and hares. The hunting species available at the ground are ring-necked pheasants and hares.
