Yuhu Lake in Lichuan is located in Badu Village of Rifeng Town and connects with Hongmen Reservoir. Its water surface stretches over more than 40,000 mu, clear as green jade and stretching far into misty haze. Scattered across the lake are over 500 islands of varying sizes, boasting picturesque scenery. Tens of thousands of wild ducks, cormorants, egrets and other waterbirds inhabit these islets. Boating on the lake, you can see flocks of waterbirds frolicking and foraging amid the mountains and waters, with birdsong echoing endlessly all around. Particularly striking are the red sandstone formations along the lakeshore. After long-term weathering and erosion by wind and rain, they have taken on countless fantastic shapes, forming a unique Danxia landform. Some resemble lovely mushrooms, some mighty lions, some ferocious crocodiles, and others simple-minded orangutans. The lifelike rock shapes hold visitors spellbound.

Geologically, Yuhu Lake features typical Danxia landform. Iron-red precipices, steep crags and grotesque rocks line the lakeside. Subjected to long-term weathering and running water erosion, the rock faces have formed numerous patterns of humans, birds, beasts and flowers in different sizes and shapes. These exquisite and bizarre natural wonders stir the imagination and amaze all who see them. There are fascinating scenic spots such as the mysterious Golden Turtle Rock, the narrow Sky Crack winding deep into mountains, the time-worn Mushroom Rock, and the timeless Jade Maiden Peak. These varied attractions together with local legends are like doors to history. Every gentle knock sends long echoes down the tunnel of time.

The water culture of Yuhu Lake embodies the 1,700-year-long civilization of Lichuan County. It was the earliest settlement of Lichuan’s ancestors and the cradle of local culture. Famous scholars of the Song Dynasty including Zhu Xi and Li Gou once delivered lectures here. The region even saw a glorious era when "two prime ministers and four ministers came from one clan". Thanks to such profound cultural heritage, Yuhu Lake stands apart from ordinary lakes, radiating elegance and profound inner beauty.
