Zhijin Cave serves as the core scenic spot of Zhijin Cave Scenic Area. Originally named Daji Cave, it is a high-elevation dry karst cave with diversified structures, multiple layers and varied landforms.

The total length of the cave reaches 12.1 kilometres, covering an area of over 700,000 square metres. The maximum width between the two cave walls is 175 metres, with a relative height difference of 150 metres. The usual height and width range from 50 to 80 metres. There are hundreds of forms of karst deposits, covering nearly all types of cave accumulations found across the globe. The spectacular and varied rock formations create a fairyland comparable to a celestial palace, making it an unparalleled underground wonderland.

The cave is generally divided into eleven scenic zones: Reception Hall, Scripture Lecture Hall, God of Longevity Palace, Heavenly Palace, Moon Palace, Snow Fragrance Palace, Pagoda Forest Cave, Ten-Thousand Great Mountains, Banquet Hall, Water Town and Golden Rat Palace. The first eight open zones contain a total of 112 scenic spots. After field investigation and appraisal by experts and scholars, Zhijin Cave is hailed as "an incomparable underground art treasure trove" and "an unparalleled museum of karst caves in the world".

Rare treasures with extremely high ornamental and scientific research value include the jade-like Silver Rain Tree, the vivid Overlord Helmet, snow-covered pine formations, helicites, cave jars and chicken blood stone. In 1992, organized by the National Tourism Administration, experts and tourists ranked Zhijin Cave the 13th among China’s Top 40 Tourist Resorts and the 7th among newly developed scenic spots. Comparisons with world-famous karst caves by professionals confirm that Zhijin Cave ranks among the top caves worldwide in scale, shape and colouration.
