Brief Introduction
Xujia Natural Village of Wangfan Village sits at the border of Tongcun Town and Sanqingshan Scenic Area in Jiangxi Province, 36 kilometers away from the county seat. It borders Huabu Town to the east, Zihu Town of Yushan County, Jiangxi to the south, Sanqingshan Mountain to the west, and Nanhua Mountain to the north. Nestled between mountains and rivers, it was a strategic military stronghold in history and a key node on the red trade route.
During the Agrarian Revolutionary War, the Soviet Red Party assigned underground Party member Wu Yaoyan, a native of Xujia Village, to set up an underground transportation station here. He secretly transported large quantities of supplies for the Red Army, making the village a vital trade passage for the Soviet Area. Later, Wu Yaoyan was cruelly executed by the Kuomintang reactionaries; his head was cut off and hung on the city wall of Kaihua as a public warning.
In January 1935, the Advance Detachment of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army for the Resistance against Japanese Aggression, under the leadership of Fang Zhimin, Su Yu and other comrades, marched south from southern Anhui to western Zhejiang’s Kaihua, planning to return to northeastern Jiangxi via the Ganzhou-Wuyuan-Deqing Soviet Area. On the morning of the 13th, the troops reached Xujia Village and were intercepted by Kuomintang security regiments. The two sides fought intermittently until dusk. Covered by the 19th Division, the 10th Red Army Corps made a detour northwest and moved under cover of night, suffering heavy casualties in this battle.
After the battle, local villagers secretly buried the remains of revolutionary martyrs of the Red Army. A Red Army martyrs’ tomb was built in Xujia Village in 1952. In 2007, the former village Party and village committees of Xujia reconstructed a new martyrs’ tomb, which was designated as one of the Third Batch of County-level Patriotism Education Bases the following year. On June 29, 2011, the memorial site of the Xujia Village Battle of the 10th Red Army Corps was officially established
