Jiulong Gorge Scenic Area

Ticket: 40 RMB

Transportation: Take the Shanghai-Hangzhou Expressway to North Hangzhou, then switch to provincial highways to reach Jiulong Gorge in Anji.

Nestled within Tianhuangping Scenic Area of Anji County, Zhejiang Province, Jiulong Gorge takes its name from the one-of-a-kind thousand-year-old white tea bushes growing here. It lies merely 2 kilometers away from Tianhuangping Pumped Storage Power Station, Asia’s leading facility of its kind. The gorge is 70 kilometers from Hangzhou, 220 kilometers from Shanghai, and 64 kilometers from Huzhou.
As you step into White Tea Valley’s Jiulong Gorge, a vivid, rich Chinese landscape painting unfolds before your eyes. Verdant mountains stand amid lush trees, flanked by steep cliffs and jagged precipices. Clear streams wind through the terrain, with winding paths twisting around mountain ridges. An unparalleled tranquility pervades the valley, transporting visitors to a fairyland.
Nine grand waterfalls surge freely here, said to be where the nine sons of the dragon once roamed and frolicked. On this auspicious land, each waterfall boasts a distinct magical charm: some flow gently like quiet maidens, pooling into crystal-clear sapphire deep ponds; others resemble the Milky Way cascading from heaven, white silk ribbons glinting brightly under sunlight; still others plunge thunderously down from the sky in overwhelming grandeur. Together, they fill the gorge with countless graceful waterfalls of varied forms, each showcasing its unique splendor.
Dense primeval forests blanket the valley, featuring towering perilous cliffs, twisted ancient trees, rare spiritual plants and immortal herbs untouched by mortal dust. The unspoiled original ecological scenery cleanses visitors’ minds and souls, making all worldly gains and losses fade away completely.
Jiulong Gorge is a grand canyon shaped during ancient glacial periods. Its lofty mountains enclose a deep gorge, where sunlight rarely reaches the valley floor all year round. Boasting distinctive geographic climates, special geological structures and unique landforms, the gorge forms rare spectacular icy landscapes naturally in winter, including ice waterfalls, icebergs and glaciers. Visitors can behold over-100-meter-tall ice waterfalls, breathtaking massive ice icicles, and fascinating natural icy rivers and glaciers, making it an unparalleled winter travel destination. Its unique geographical conditions are unmatched across North China for hosting ice sculpture winter tourism events.
Moreover, the scenic area has built man-made ice sculptures including giant dragons, ice dragon pillars and icebergs. This winter’s ice sculpture and icicle sightseeing zones of Jiulong Gorge cover the Dragon Palace Scenic Area, divided into three sections:
  1. The Ice Sculpture Zone: It houses elaborate ice carvings including Maitreya Buddha, ancient castles, pagoda forests, jade monkeys welcoming the Spring, jade lions, ice dragons and Egyptian pharaohs, consuming over 1,000 cubic meters of ice. All these artworks are handcrafted by the professional ice sculptors of Jiulong Gorge Scenic Area.
  2. The Artificial Ice Landscape Zone: Giant icebergs and hanging icicles created via artificial water spraying.
  3. The Natural Ice Waterfall Zone: Natural towering ice waterfalls stretching more than 100 meters down the mountainside.
Clouds and mist frequently shroud Jiulong Gorge in winter, forming boundless sea of clouds paired with exquisite rime ice that evokes a celestial wonderland—winter is the prime season to visit, so do not miss this precious chance!
A folk custom resort sits within White Tea Valley of Jiulong Gorge, offering cozy and tidy farm courtyards, delicious rustic local cuisine and strong mountain village charm to wash away your work exhaustion and all mortal troubles. An abundant array of local specialties awaits you to savor.
Integrating sightseeing, tourism, scientific research, leisure and vacation, Jiulong Gorge is a comprehensive tourist resort. We warmly welcome guests from all corners of the globe to visit, revel in the wonders of natural ecology, explore dragon culture, indulge in nostalgic reveries, and admire the extraordinary vistas of Dragon Gorge. Come step through the Dragon Gate, sip spring water from Dragon Spring, ride the mythical dragon steed, and climb alongside dragon and phoenix rock formations!
