Yishui Firefly Water Cave Tourist Area

Nestled at the foot of Shimi Mountain, 19 kilometers south of Yishui County, Yishui Firefly Water Cave Tourist Area is a renowned mysterious underground firefly cave wonderland and a National AAAA-level Tourist Attraction.

The karst cave took shape roughly 65 million to 230 million years ago, stretching 1,200 meters in total length. An abundant underground lake runs through the cave, with clear, sweet green waters winding into unfathomable depths. Inside the cave lie numerous stalactites, exotic rock formations and unique scenic sights including the Heavenly River, Goddess Rock, Heavenly Bridge, upper caves within caves and inner recesses. More remarkably, a special species of fireflies dwells here, surviving only in damp caverns. Thousands upon thousands of fireflies cling to the cave ceiling, twinkling like stars on a cloudless night and forming fantastic constellation-like celestial scenes.

Visitors board rope-towed light boats to glide through the pitch-black cave passage. Suddenly, the view opens up to reveal countless shimmering lights sparkling all around, as if stepping into a fairy tale realm. Tourists may seek out their own symbolic constellations. Myriads of fireflies cling to the stalactite-lined cave walls, their glimmers weaving a brilliant starry expanse across the vaulted ceiling. The fireflies overhead resemble an ornate diamond necklace or a magical ever-changing sky full of stars. This unique natural spectacle is exclusive to Yimeng. Standing amid the glow, visitors marvel at its wonder, oblivious to the chill of the waterway, lost in boundless imagination and reluctant to leave.

Comparable to Waitomo Glowworm Caves in Auckland, New Zealand, this cave ranks first in Asia and is one of a kind in China.
