Martyr Wang Jie Memorial Hall

The memorial hall stands on the eastern side of Wangjie Village, 2.5 kilometres north of Jinxiang County seat. It covers a total area of 3,015 square metres, including an exhibition area of 163 square metres. The hall displays documents, pictures, photographs and personal relics recounting the life and heroic deeds of Martyr Wang Jie.

Wang Jie (1942–1965) was born in Wangjie Village on the outskirts of Jinxiang County. He enlisted in the military in 1961 and joined the Communist Youth League of China in 1962. He once served as squad leader of the 1st Engineer Company of a military unit. He was awarded the Third-Class Merit Citation twice and honoured as a "Model League Member".

On July 14, 1965, while assisting militia training in Zhanglou Commune, Pi County, Jiangsu Province, an explosive charge suddenly detonated. To shield 12 militiamen and local armed forces cadres on the spot, he threw himself fearlessly onto the explosive and sacrificed his life heroically.

The Party Committee of his unit posthumously admitted him to the Communist Party of China. The Ministry of National Defence named his former squad the "Wang Jie Squad". Many Party and state leaders, including Zhou Enlai, Zhu De, Dong Biwu, Lu Dingyi and Xu Guangda, personally wrote inscriptions in memory of him.
